The Beauty of Hell...

Article 1 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights - also known as my personal life motto!

All Human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights. They are endowed with reason and conscience and should act towards one another in a spirit of brotherhood.

Who I am...

I am a wife. I am a mother. I am a survivor.
My family has made me who I am...my past family with past hurts...my current family with current joy.
Family is something you are born into and cannot choose,
family is also what you choose it to be once you are old enough to start anew...

Labor Day in the U.S.

Today is Labor Day.  A day that has traditionally, for me anyway, meant BBQ and family time.  So on this auspicious day, we will do both - my in-laws will be here this afternoon and we will make our healthy fare of chicken, turkey, beef and veggie kabobs.

I really love any excuse to get together with those I love and talk and laugh and make yummy food!  So these days are what I look forward to and what sustain me throughout the daily grind of the rest of the year.

Tomorrow we will be back to the grind, until the end of the month when I will celebrate another year of getting older...another perfect excuse to have those I love surround me with laughter, good conversation and fantastic food!

Fellow Campaigners...I have truly enjoyed reading your blogs and getting to know each of your unique voices.  I truly appreciate the comments and camaraderie I have experienced thus far, and I hope it continues long after this is over.

Please, gentle readers, respond to this and let me know
1. What is your favorite holiday and why?
2. What is your favorite food that is unique to that holiday (in other words, you only eat it on that day)

Thanks for your feedback, it's just another way to read a layer of you!

  1. Awwww!! Back atcha, Heather! ;-)

My favourite holiday would have to be Christmas. I just love the way most people seem to be all happy and in the spirit, I love the pretty decorations, I love the songs, I love the way friends and family make more of an effort to get together and, of course, I love the food. It's just such a warm, fuzzy holiday, and, yes, I am a great, big sap at heart! Lol...

We don't eat this ONLY on Christmas, but my favourite Christmas food would be the turkey. Mmmmmm.... turkey.....

  2. I guess Christmas, because that's the only holiday that we make a big deal of. And I get to eat pigs in blankets. Tiny little sausages wrapped in bacon. We could et them at other times but we don't, they're just for Christmas :-)

  3. Well, my favorite would be Christmas, but we never had a special dish then.

The only holiday with a special dish would be All Saints Day - we always had my grandmother's special liver dumpling soup (a traditionl Bavarian soup) after we returned from the cemetary.

  4. I love Thanksgiving. I'm not a gourmet cook by a longshot, but everything I make I make with love. And hubby always does the dishes afterward. :)
